Drying/storing wood: insects
Sep 18th, 2021 at 1:12pm

I have some logs as well as some milled boards drying/storing in my basement. Do I have to worry about insects?  I had a couple pieces of oak sitting in my garage that I got from some guy’s shed and I found some small piles of sawdusty stuff accumulating under them, I threw these out but am now very nervous although I have not seen anything like this within my basement.

Logs OUTSIDE NOW!  Throw out or burn. There is more wood growing every day. You could store the lumber outside stickered and covered and check for bug dust but why gamble?

As bad as a pile of firewood next to your fireplace of wood stove and all of the bugs come back to life and escape into the house.

Rule: no logs inside any building.
Milled boards should be ok but stickered and not leaning on the logs.

Logs also bring in fungus and can rot floor boards.

Other than that, no problem. Smiley
