Sadly, it's not

I paid less for my radial drill press than the little angle jig costs

Umm, didn't see anything that was labeled a mortice match. I think every drill press has a table that tilts, so don't understand the concept.... My family owns a manufacturing business in the mid west, and my dad said metal prices tripled last year. Maybe that is part of the 'cost'..... Don't have any of their tools, at least not yet...

Then there is Bridge City tools....

It's a constant source of amazement (and incredulity, truth be told) to me that there is enough of a market in the world to support a business like that.

Yes, Drill press tables tilt but that means your stock tilts too, this is not always convenient or even possible. Which is why I have a radial drill press.

The mortise thing is simply a clamping board with a fence that has an angle attachment. Anyone who has a biscuit jointer probably made something similar once upon a time.

Okay.... Another pass for me. Heck, I could make my own easier than that... I have just stuck with the old biscuit/plate joiners. Looked at the Festool variation and thought nope, not any better than the standard...

The dowel plate design mandates that I buy only from that manufacturer. With biscuits, I can buy from anyone. An adjustable angle (like we used in Engineering) is only about 20 bucks nowadays. I agree, I can make this for much less.

I had that exact same thought and shared it on another board. I was told the the fence that flips over and can be used on both sides for a left AND right cut was ingenious, called it the "brain" of the unit and was offended that I called it a clamping board with a fence.
I even showed plans I found online for one dating back to 2001 but was told "it's not the same"  Roll Eyes

"The jig could hardly be simpler. Our primary design criterion was making the 3 ft. by 3 ft. jig big enough to handle cabinet parts or other likely production pieces; please feel encouraged to adapt the dimensions to suit your specific needs."

I suppose I'm just not as easily impressed as some, by an idea that's been around for a few decades getting a new paint job and asking $699.99 for.

Oh well, to each his own.
