Hello from UK two...

Hello from Sid, another new UK member.
I am an ode git who has had no practical experience throughout my working life having taught photography amongst other things. I recently joined the Men in Sheds here in Port Erin on the Isle of Man and on my first day there was introduced to the delights of the lathe. I am eager to learn from all you experienced people here and look forward to sharing the pleasures of this delightful pastime, hobby, creative craft, etc...

Welcome Sid, enjoy the ride.
We all had a similar experience as you did in when we first discovered the lathe.
What do you envision turning on your old record lathe?

Hello Ed, thanks for your reply. So far, I have been really enjoying pen turning but I'm told that at 2000 rpm max the lathe could be better. I have made a couple of egg cups and next on the list are a few salt and pepper mills. I'm looking forward to attempting bigger things but still enjoy the small stuff too...

2000 RPM is plenty in my opinion.
One reason why pen turners like higher rpm's, is so they can apply a friction polish finish, for the actual turning of the wood, it is plenty.
Don't let the 2000 rpm limit dissuade you from trying anything, it's not that much of a concern.
