Ring press design

Looking for ideas for a ring press design. I have poked around on Google and see several different ones. Looking for something lightweight and not too bulky.

I build an MDF box with a carriage bolt coming through the center.  There are several different sized circles with a slot cut in them to spread clamping pressure evenly.  I also use boxes of lead bullets for smaller sets of rings.  Each bullet box weighs about 20 lbs.

I build up my rings directly on the lathe. You only have to wait 5 minutes between rings so it's a good time to sweep or put clutter away for just a few minutes.

Granted, I haven't been doing segmented pieces for a while, but when I did I used this method.

Older topic here but since I am a new guy I will have a go at an answer.
On individual rings to rings I simply use clamps pictured below.
On adding rings to a semi turned bowl or vase I use a cross bar over the top of the work and two bar clamps extending through a workbench / assembly bench via holes. The picture will tell a better story.

All the above methods work. Here's how I do it.

I leave the the base on the chuck and once I have a ring glued up I leave it setup for 5-10 minutes. Then I apply glue to the base with the chuck and place it on top of the ring. Next I rub the 2 joints a little to make sure the glue is spread evenly. And that's it. The weight of the chuck is enough.

One reason glue joints fail is they are clamped to tightly and almost all of the glue is squeezed out. This is true for flat woodworking and segmented wood turning.
