Goodbye 2022.

Well, 2022 is almost gone.
Some things we wish would stick around, and some things we can't wait to get rid of.
Woodworking, like many other things, ebbs and flows. One year it's X and one year it's Y.
What are the woodworking trends you'd like to see gone for a while (or forever) and what would you like to see make a resurgence (at least for a while)?
IMHO
I would like to see all things cutting board leave for a good while (I don't get the attraction)

I would like to see wood turning have a bit of a resurgence.
Too many out there casting all sorts of things into a block of resin and turning it.

What do you guys/gals think?

Ed I tend to agree about use of resins. I will not be investing as long as usable wood grows on trees. Would place in a specialty category such as done w/segmented work. I also feel a need to address newby issues. While bowls are very popular and alluring to beginners the techniques and tools needed are perhaps the most prone to discouragement and failure. perhaps the intro of more spindle projects and techniques would drawand retain viewership. In 50+yrs of turning I've made 18" platters and lots of bowls but have done way more work tween centers. Chess, spoons, spatulas, drumsticks, stools, one pc pens, ,,,,

From my trip to Arizona, I brought back some Cholla cactus that I plan to make into pens using casting molds I got for Christmas. But, i agree no more large castings. Just enough to fill the cracks.

Also, Though they're pretty, I don't get turning something than carving it so that one can't tell it was turned. Could someone explain?

I'm not good enough to turn between centers, so chess pieces are out. I bought a nice scroll saw earlier this year, so might get into some scroll sawing as something different. Alos got a dinning table to build. I STILL like to turn.

I can’t even plug my lathe in yet, no 220 plugs. I’m just starting on turning my garage into a shop. It’s much smaller than my last one by about 320 sq ft, but I’ll make it work. I’m not much for resin stuff but I’ve turned it. I’ve been working on some segmented designs and am looking forward to putting them on the lathe.

I have no objection to innovation as such. The first pencil bowls were clever and new. Steven Hogbin opened my mind to new ways of looking at shapes. I just can't justify throwing a bunch of scraps, too small to save, too rotten, and wormy, into a bucket with 40 bucks of resin just to save them. That's not clever or creative, just different. But then, I prefer practical (and attractive) turnings maybe with the occasional colorful fill. Angry

With the amount of YT videos on these types of projects, I thought I was the only one who didn't like them.
I think it's pure nonsense.

Here's one thing I'll never understand.
Just about any woodworker you talk to about finishing says they want a good finish that enhances the grain but doesn't feel plasticy.
Next thing you know, people are making everything imaginable out of plastic resin and trying to meld it with wood. Huh

If someone can figure this out or has an answer that makes even a small amount of sense, please let me know, thanks.
