I wonder why so many members avoid entering any info in the profile area? I realize it's a personal choice but I like to get some insight as to age, yrs turning, equipment. Sometimes it helps establish credibility, or how much help is needed because they are so young and/or inexperienced. It just happens to be a minor peeve of mine but I'll get over it. Angry

Been here for years and last time I updated my profile was about 8 years ago when we moved from Kansas to Wisconsin.  I don't remember how much of the profile was filled out when I signed up.

Well, my Lathe/s and location are listed under my Avatar. I've been turning for about 20 years and a member here for almost 15.
I've been doing carpentry and woodworking in one form or another off and on for 40+ years.
I started turning as an extension of flat woodworking (which I still do) and then started segmenting as an extension of turning.
Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.

It's kind of a point on my moral compass. If I'm willing to spout off my personal opinion I should, at minimum, show a modicum of working knowledge acquired over time and experience. I also feel I have an obligation to pass on some of my knowlege hoping somehow there might be someone who would benefit.

I agree, I can only answer what I know to be true or have first hand experience in doing. There are far too many Ultracrepidarians these days.
Thanks to google, everyone is an expert on everything.

Reminds me of working as a graphic artist in publication dept. where writers were cautioned to abjure obfuscation. Undecided

Turners with years of experience are just as capable of offering gobbledygook as those with little experience.

True, but the odds are lower in general.

Personally, to the OP's point. I like to see their work so I can assess the quality for myself. Some people can talk a good game but that's all.
