It is constructed of Cherry finials and beads that are threaded together. The finials are hollowed out and deep blue flocking applied. I pyro'ed the letters on the Holly tumblers. The inner tube is Fiddle Back Maple and has brass pins. The tumbler tube (as is the tumbler rings) is staved constructed using Blond Mohogany. The bottom tumbler has a True Stone Turquois ring with my signature. The base is Sweet Gum ans was dyed with Artisan Red dye as were the finials. The entire project was finished with Masters Gloss Lacquer. Good thing I smoke, so I had a lighter on me (never thought I'd say something like that, but hey, first time to everything...), so some slow speed turning and fire did the trick just fine. The wood has a real marble texture and feel to it, and the grain, when looked at closely looks like a hologram, and is quite striking. At first I wanted to keep the bark, but it came off pretty quickly into the turn, but once I've seen the color of the fresh wood under the oxidized layer, I was glad for it. The wood was one of the most enjoyable I had worked with, the cuts long and smooth, and getting a clean surface with no tool marks was no problem at all. I used a light and a dark piece of Hornbeam to hold the threading. I have a Carbatec threading jig, but chasing seems easier than setting it up. Maybe it will come in handy if I ever need to produce many at a time. The finish is one heavy application WOP, 3 days dry, and the usual buffing sequence. The thinness of this one helps with the eloquence factor when held. Also, I`ve come to prefer the feel of WOP over lacquer, not to mention it`s better durability. C n C welcome and helpful!
