The interesting thing is the Celtic design in the handle. It kept breaking at the glue joint. So, after several attempts and being the ever clever guy that I am, I drilled the end for a dowel. Then after gluing all of the accent in place I put a dowel up the center. This one I blew up 3 times. The wood was just to interesting to give up on. The 1st time was when my live center broke and it turned into a UFO. The 2nd I just got a bad catch while hollowing and the 3rd time was while is buffing it and it got away. I have at least a whole bottle of CA in it stabilizing the soft spongy parts and holding all of the broken pieces together. However, I think the final results was worth all of the frustration and effort. If anyone is interested I have photos of the pieces.

7 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=8718&title=spalted-maple-and-walnut-hollow-form&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=8718&title=spalted-maple-and-walnut-hollow-form&cat=500 Tue, 30 Mar 2010 05:25:27 +0000 Spruce and mahogany hollow form

by: Nic Davies

Description}: The HF is a 13 inches high by 7 inches wide. The base is spruce. It is a conifer native to the Northwest. The spruce is very soft and marks easily. But it smells nice while being worked on. The Santiago mahogany was give to me by a boat pbuilder. It is glued up using George's OATS format. Thank you George. It is caped with cherry and a walnut finial.

3 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=8717&title=spruce-and-mahogany-hollow-form&cat=500 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=8717&title=spruce-and-mahogany-hollow-form&cat=500 Tue, 30 Mar 2010 04:47:22 +0000
