The body is bloodwood, lid is figured, spalted maple, the perch and finial are zircote. The bloodwood is the same weird stuff that I used on my elevated challenge piece, it shines on the lathe then after just a little handling it's dull again, still smooth though. Must be sucking up the finish, may try sanding sealer or wax tomorrow.

4 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2714&title=birdhouse-ornament&cat=528 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2714&title=birdhouse-ornament&cat=528 Tue, 20 Jun 2006 04:40:30 +0000 Second ornament

by: Philip Peak

Description}: Managed a second one today. The bottom is a piece that Ugly Duck sent me a long time ago, there is a small diameter of dark brown in the center, the rest is sapwood obviously. The top is Walnut heartwood. The bottom was longer by about two inches but I dropped it while taking it off the lathe. It is my first ewver ornament and my 6th or 7th try. Two tries since this one have resulted in the same as the previous 5 or 6.

6 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2712&title=walnut-and-walnut-ornament&cat=528 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2712&title=walnut-and-walnut-ornament&cat=528 Mon, 19 Jun 2006 19:51:42 +0000 Birdhouse

by: souperman

Description}: Well I finallyj finished my piece for the community project. The bowl is a round bottom bowl, 2 3/4" dia. x 1 1/4" deep, about 1/8" wall thickness. Turned a christmas tree and then cut it in half for the two inside. Painted the inside with acrylic paints, the outside is finished with satin lacquer finish. The bowl is HF maple and the trees are cherry. Drilled a small hole and then glued a piece of wire bent to have a hanging loop. Got the idea from the David Reed Smith tutorial I posted the other day, fast and fun. :)

7 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2434&title=ornament-1&cat=528 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2434&title=ornament-1&cat=528 Sat, 20 May 2006 08:10:09 +0000
