The base is formed from three pieces of wood stacked face to face so the grain is running the wrong way to be able to thin the stem without weakening it too much. My solution was to bore a 3/8" hole completely through the base and glue in a dowel that does have the grain running the proper way for support. http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2578&title=eb-c-t-base&cat=530 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2578&title=eb-c-t-base&cat=530 Wed, 31 May 2006 16:45:26 +0000 EB C&T - Top off

by: Bob Hamilton

Description}: This shows the hollow form aspect. My first attempts at hollow forms even though I don't really have the right tools. :) I am not too happy with the proportions on this one, but it is better than my first try. I think the finial is too bulky to fit with the rest of the piece. Bowl is 4" across the flats and the piece is about 6 3/4" tall.

15 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2576&title=elevated-boxes-c-amp-t&cat=530 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2576&title=elevated-boxes-c-amp-t&cat=530 Wed, 31 May 2006 16:37:42 +0000 unique

by: Yvon Morin

Description}: h:10 1/8, w 4, yellow birch,oak,mohagany

10 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2570&title=unique&cat=530 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2570&title=unique&cat=530 Wed, 31 May 2006 13:48:44 +0000 second view with lid off

by: Larry Charlot http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2569&title=second-view-with-lid-off&cat=530 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2569&title=second-view-with-lid-off&cat=530 Wed, 31 May 2006 13:37:01 +0000 C & T piece - elevated box

by: Chris Wright

Description}: Here's mine, realized after all is said and done that I missed on the diameter a bit, oh well, any wider and it would have looked funny. 6" tall x 2 1/2" diameter.
