Doug Miller

Description}: This is the companion goblet that I made for myself to go with the heart pine plate that I posted a few days ago. Cup and base are both heart pine. I used a piece of Mt. Mahogany for the stem. I was conserving my pine for some reason. Anyway, the goblet is 3 1/8" wide x 9" tall. Cup is about 1/16" thick top to bottom. There is light that passes through in a couple of places. Finish is DO, buffed down between coats with 0000 steel wool. Must have 10-12 coats on it. Buffed with tripoli, WD, and carnuba. Finally buffed by hand with Ren wax. The base is a tad small, but this is staying in my collection so it really matters not to me. I love it and know where it came from. Would still like to hear your comments and your questions.

6 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=7821&title=old-yellow-heart-pine-goblet&cat=581 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=7821&title=old-yellow-heart-pine-goblet&cat=581 Mon, 29 Jun 2009 22:51:46 -0500 Olive/Apple Goblet (a)

by: Rev. Cup and base are Olive that was included in one of the wood exchanges we did a while back. The stem is apple, again included in a wood exchange. I wanted to do something more with the stem so I dyed it with Rit dye. Wasn't sure it was actually stay red or not, but as you can see (I hope) it did. Being who I am, there is a significance to the wood selections. 3" diameter 6" tall Finish - Seal-A-Cell, Beale buffed with all three grits Stem has tenon on each end inserted and glued into mortises in both cup and base.

4 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=6562&title=olive-apple-goblet-a&cat=581 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=6562&title=olive-apple-goblet-a&cat=581 Wed, 24 Sep 2008 22:24:48 -0500 Little Goblet

by: Rev. Squared it up and stuck it in my Nova midi chuck, one of those that is being sold with some of the Jet mini's. 3" tall and totally turned with my 3/8" Sorby bowl gouge. Finish is one dipping in DO. Will probably go back and spray some water based lacquer soon. 8)

2 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2781&title=little-goblet&cat=581 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2781&title=little-goblet&cat=581 Thu, 29 Jun 2006 00:55:09 -0500 Peach Goblet

by: Rev. In fact the bottom of the stem goes down to 1/16" Bowl is aobut 1/16 thick. I really liked this one and may try to save it with some coffee and CA. Haven't quite decided yet. Son wants it to play with. May just let him have it.

2 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2321&title=peach-goblet&cat=581 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2321&title=peach-goblet&cat=581 Sun, 30 Apr 2006 16:21:31 -0500 Pine Goblet

by: Rev. Doug Miller

Description}: This came from a beam that was taken out of a church as it was being remodeled. We were able to cound 150 growth rings. The church has been built for over 100 years. I'm being told that they didn't use lumber right away back them, so who knows how long this heart yellow pine really is. We can confirm 250 years. If we only knew how long it sat around before it was used in this church. My dad took a bunch of the beam and made 750 crosses that members are wearing all over the place. I collected this chunk and made this goblet for the pastor. It is 7" tall. Bowl is 3 1/2" in diameter and about 1/8" thickness. The stem is about 4" and is closer to 1/4". Finish is DO to gloss (about 15 coats). Feels good in the hand.

3 comments http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2320&title=pine-goblet&cat=581 http://www.woodturnersresource.com/wrphotopost/showphoto.php?photo=2320&title=pine-goblet&cat=581 Sun, 30 Apr 2006 16:15:26 -0500 First try at a goblet

by: Rev.
