I love it. Would like to know your dimensions and finish too. Could be illusion of the camera, but it looks like there are some tool marks still in the wood. Not fussing, but pushing all of us to work at getting all those little marks out of our work. What I'm seeing is just outside the black rings (1) and on the lid (2, maybe 3). I really like your ball and finial. Looks to be in great proportion. Not the run of the mill finial either. Works well for me. 8^)
It's hard to bring a lot of elements together and have it all work out. You sure accomplished that task with this piece. I'm also drawn to the rather unique finial!
Many thanks for your comments. It was really an experimental piece of work.
The piece measures
6" high, including finial
3 1/2" wide
Finish was sanding sealer, then i used a mop system to polish
Doug, i checked the lid, and there is no tool marks, it must have been the light bouncing on the piece from above when i took the photo, but many thanks for your observation.
