This is another in the reverse turning series. This is from some heavily spalted birch I rescued from a burn pile at the lake. 7 3/4" tall by 4" wide. Finished with Danish oil. The oil deepened the colors and really brought out the spalting.
Larry, it wasn't actually burnt, it was just in the "to be burned" pile by the fire pit. I thought it looked too good to go up in flames and I didn't think my drunken sailor buddies would notice. Punky in spots but pretty once it is finished.

Rev. I agree with you to a point but I wanted to go a bit extreme. Just for novelty sake. I have some where the rim is as wide as the body and the neck is very small and much shorter. From the top they look like a flower and I think they have their own appeal. I think I'm still searching for that killer shape that sings. Until then, I'll have a lot of fun looking for it.

Sounds good to me. I was just thinking that it might look good with an even wider rim. Give it a go with this length neck and a wider rim. Might just be the ticket. 8^)
