This is the same piece that I posted earlier in the summer. Then it still had a post on the bottom. It warped just a bit so it now has two peaks (foreground and back) but no cracks. Only two coats of Danish Oil so far. Several more and two coats of finishing wax to go.

Doug, on a bowl that thin do you need more than 2 coats of Danish Oil? I've never used more than 2 coats of it. I buff the heck out of it and wax if I think it needs it.
It's your bowl, Doug, do as you think best. I think it looks very well now.
There are no where near enough coats on it at this point. Still has a bit of roughness to it. I use the printed instructions of the label when I apply. Saturate the piece, let it sit for 20 minutes and wipe off all excess. At 4-5 coats, it begins to be pretty blotchy. Another 3-5 coats will usually give the piece an even shine. If I'm working toward translucency (sp?), I soak it in the oil over night and then drip dry for 24-36 hours for at least 15 cycles. Once the sheen is uniform I usually steel wool and then wax twice. If I had a buffing system I might stop a bit short of the number of I currently use, but for now I keep laying it on. Takes a few extra days, but the finish will not come off. 8)
