Nice piece of wood. I like how you kept the embellishments simple and let the wood speak for itself. Is the area past the bowl a flat rim or does the bottom reflect a larger bowl shape?
I think the fact that it is so small actually adds to the piece. It's almost like finding that sliver of gold in a huge piece of quartz. Just enough to make the viewer wonder what it is.
This is actually a pretty heavy bowl. It's rounded out from the edge down to the bottom.
I used the turquoise because of a small crack in the crotch portion and didn't want to turn away any more figure. I've used gold fill before, but didn't think that would stand out very well with the mixture of heart/sap wood.
I like those bowl forms Pete. From the top, they look light & delicate, but the heft gives it a strong feel. I agree the turquoise was a better choice, the gold would have blended into the figure too much.
The Walnut piece is exceptional in the way it shows the crotch feathering. It is rather like being outspoken without making a sound. I really like the way the two natural edge bowls just seem to float in place.
