This is the second sink I have done for the same designer/client. Claro Walnut, 13 1/4" square x 3 1/4" tall. The bowl is 11 1/4" diameter with a 5/8" vertical transition into a 2 1/4" deep bowl. The foot is round, 10" dia. x 1/4" thick. SOAKED in Mahoney's walnut oil (still wet as shown here) and now it's buffed back to a very natural polished finish with Mahoney's Walnut Oil Wax.
At 18 3/4" on the diagonal, I had 5/8" between the corners and the lathe bed...now that was fun.
Larry, the finish was at the client's request, they wanted matte/handrubbed oil/wax finish on this one. It won't be used more than a dozen times a year so durability against water isn't as much of a consieration. Since this is the same finish I use on salad bowls and they undergo more frequent and harsh (to various elements) treatment, it should stay looking nice for quite a long time. They also know about the upkeep on such a finish and are fine with it.
As for the extension, that might be a consideration in the future, only problem is I'd have to order the rear leg too as I have the 3520A and it doesn't have the bolt holes for the 3520B extension.
Chris,
Clamp an extension in-place where you want it (if it will fit on a flat plane), and drill/tap(?) the necessary holes. Use automotive bolts with at least a grade 6, 7, or 8. http://www.sizes.com/tools/bolts_inch_grades.htm

Thanks Gil, I had thought about that but my skills at properly tapping a hole are about as good as my skills at squaring and cutting a straight line. There's a reason I'm a woodturner...it's all curves! Might be a reason to drag Larry & Jay up to my place though with some proper encouragement.
Thanks Jim but I don't think the poor drill press would like having one of these legs on it! (they weigh close to 100lbs each) besides, if I buy it one piece at a time, in 2-3 years I'll have myself a complete 3520B
Beautiful sink, Chris. I would think any reasonably stable wood would be fine even with most any finish if it is not used too often but I would hope no one forgets and leaves water sitting it over night.
