First of all, apologies for the photo. My photo booth at work no longer exists, and I haven't made other arrangements yet. This is the first box I've made. I took a hands-on class with Bob Rosand last year to learn how to do this, but most of the class was spent doing much simpler things. Had the wood ready and sitting there, but never got around to trying it. This challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity, except it isn't 4" square.
Pete, that is a very good looking box, and the curves are fluid and seem to carry through into the lid. I did not realize that maple could look so pretty.
Pete, you out did yourself. I'm looking forward to getting it on my shelf and in my hand. From the picture, it looks like you did a perfect job with the lines. The one issue that I have with most boxes is that the finial does not seem to fit with the rest of the box. This one seems just right to me. You did not try to get it so thin and feminine looking. It is also neither too squatty nor too tall. Looks like you've shown off the wood as well by keeping the design simple. Would love to here more about the process of turning and the finish.
Thanks for making this effort first rate. I am blessed indeed to be trading with you.
Looks great Pete. awesome form and the wood looks great. You also seemed to keep the flow between the body and lid well, which can be the difficult part.
Thanks guys. This was fun to make and I'm already looking forward to trying more of these. Rev, if you send me your particulars (either here or PM) I'll put this in the mail on Monday and you should have it soon.
Besides all the previous compliments that I agree with, this box just has an elegent look to it. The small foot and nice curve really makes for a pretty piece.
