No doubt, a man's box. Not a thing dainty about it. Probably an illusion of the picture, but it looks like it would topple over. Could you confirm or deny? Looks like the right amount of finish too.
Cool, rustic looking box Bill. This is something I wuld expect to see in a museum of natural history. It looks ancient, which is a cool effect. The antler almost looks like tusks or teeth.
Thanks all.RevDoug, it Doesnt topple, it is rock steady, I really enjoyed making this piece but I had/have some doubts about it and feel/felt really insecure about showing it, but that seems to be passing now.
Thanks.
I agree with the museum comment. That would look great in my dad's farm house in vermont, or a hunting lodge as well. I have a very poor computer monitor, is there a box slid into an outer ring?
Thanks Bill. I thought that was the case. The pic has an illusion that the legs are unevenly spaced so that the left side in this pic is unsupported. Very nice job indeed. I am so glad you are willing to try new things along with the rest of us.
I was in two minds wether to whiten the antler or leave 'as is', I chose 'as is' as it fitted nicer with the blackthorn, which is treated as a weed wood here!
By any chance is the Blackthorn common in the Red Deer habitat? That would make the relation between the 2 materials even better. I really like the design you produced. It's a unique variation on the whole box theme.
