This piece started out as just a walnut and maple "ribbon" or "Mobius" (sp?) ...3 and 1/4 bowls cut and rejoined....then I thought "this looks like a chessboard!" and built from there. After many design changes (beers)...it finally got done. Thanks to Bobtheturner for the excellent picture. He dont know it yet but he's gonna take pics of all my stuff!
Oh ..forgot the size.........hmm its not here now its at Bob's..........Lets say 12 x 16....finished in tung oil and lacquer thinner..approx 70 hours labor
quite a interesting piece. if i understand right, you turn 4 bowls, cut them at different areas and angles and glue back together??

Been reading that Malcolm Tibbits book again, eh? Jeff you have a great piece here. I can see that the turning process was pretty good work. But then you went way beyond. What an imagination you have. You say 70 hours. I believe you are being modest. You have a wonderful piece. here. Congratulations on it. 8-)
Thats right Papadave, 4 bowls turn exactly the same, some cut in half, some cut in 1/4's. I think there are 3 halfs and 7 quarters, the odd quarter thrown in there gives it the twist that makes it a true mobius.....i think (only one plane to the piece)
I started doing these type pieces because they sell! During my display in the Museum, I sold all 3 that I had. They are not really that hard, just time consuming, not much real turning time. Bout 20 min a bowl
