Bubinga and maple. 8 x 1 1/2 (oops got bigger than I thought). The rim has 3/8th inch maple "dots" I was originally going to burn in trails behind the dots to the bubinga "swirls" for a comet tail like effect, thinking it would extend the swirls out onto the rim, but took it under the advisment of several people that the simple look of this was better, and I must agree. Of course, the dots were set along the line of the maple swirl in order to accept that effect...that is why they are not in the middle of the segments.
It still needs a good bit of sanding, as well as clean up between the segments and there is no finish on it at this point.
Very nice. I think you have done the right thing by stopping where you did. Might be interesting to see another one with the swirl going all the way to the edge with out the dots. I'm sure that once sandid and finished it will be absolutely beautiful. Glad you were a part of this challenge. Thanks 8)
From what I can see, I know I'll really be happy to own this bowl. Ned, I like it and if I see any little bits of glue squeeze-out, I'll pretend it's not there
That's one of the nicest conversation pieces I've seen! Everyone is going to be asking "How did you DO That???" Absolutely beautiful just the way it is.
