Just wondering, Andy, why the wax only finish? Whether you use salad bowl finish or shellac or even lacquer, all are safe for food use. Be best would be to allow all of these finishes to cure, off gas, to the point that there is no more smell. Then you can wax the piece to protect the finish. Still, the piece is pretty and nicely done. 8-)
The piece was a semi-commission via word of mouth, and I actually asked what the "client" wanted. The responce I got was a "natural finish that would age over time" so I mentioned that I could finish with a lacquer/shellac etc, but for some reason they didnt want the hard wearing finish, just the wax. Apparently they already have a similar item that has a hard finish, and are not overly fond of it.
