That was one of the things that shocked me. It polished up like glass, and looked like it should weigh alot more. The good thing is: I have loads more of this wood. About 2 meter "plank" thats 3 inches deep and 4 wide.
Nice looking pen, Andy. Looks like you achieved a very nice transition from wood to metal.
BTW, what you have here is called Pau Amarello or Yellowheart. I've also seen it spelled amarillo, pronounced AM-UH-REE-YO. Canarywood has a very distinct sweet smell when cut into. It reminds me of cooking pralines, a candy made from sugar and pecans.
I had a feeling i had either got the name wrong, or simillar. It "was" written on the actual wood in pencil, which over time became very indistinct. At least I now know exactly what it is: back with the pencil I go..
