Very nice work, Boots. Phil is going to proud of this one. I like the overall shape of this piece. Can't see the texturing, but the burning looks pretty special. Really sets off the lighter color of this piece of cherry. Should look really special as the cherry darkens to the beautiful red that it will eventually get to. Thanks for being a part of the C&T.
Hi guys.
Thanks for your kind comments,
The rim was not burnt originally, just textured. the problem was it wasnt photogenic, I put the bowl back on the lathe and turned at about 400rpm. I then put a narrow point blow lamp on it whilst turning until it was even, it can take quite a fierce flame, I then cleaned with a cloth and waxed it. I have a picture of before burning that may show texturing better, you need to catch the light right, its a hands on thing really.
Hi,
Yes, wax is all, the timber is close grained so no sanding sealer used, the wax I used is a Chestnut product, it is a quick drying soft wax, put it on and a minute or so later polish it, I dont like gloss, I prefer satin, if no sanding sealer is required I use two coats of wax with 15minutes between coats,
