Doesn't look much different. Sanded, three coats of danis oil. My kitchen light and flash played havoc with the picture.

Interesting thing is how much darker the maple plugs got. I assume it is because it is endgrain and picked up more oil.

It took a LONGGGGGG time to get the glue out from between the segments. Big lesson learned there I assure you.

It looks very nice, Ned. You have a lot more 'patients' than I.
The end grain plugs soak up more stain/finish and look darker. Instead of using dowels (end grain) for plugs, buy several different sized plug cutters, and cut your own plugs from the face of a board.
