cool project (brownie points)
Sep 10th, 2005 at 12:54pm

My wife, (and most other women i know) love hand made gifts. especially ones that are usefull. When i first started looking into wood turning, i realized my wife has a "hair accessory" that she is never without. it is nothing more than a decorated stick. the only one she has is from India, and was purchased for her by a friend there on vacation.

It is a simple, wood stick about 5 inches long or so and maybe 1/8 of an inch around. She "ties" her hair up with it somehow and it looks kinda cool. This one has no design, or pattern or anything at all in the wood. instead, it has a piece of leather, and a stone glued to the top.

One of these things from a husband, made by that husband, for a wife with long hair is a very good gift!!!

Yup, handmade gifts are usually treasured, especially to ones wife.
I must warn you though that the use of the word "BROWNIE" on this forum can be very tasty, or somewhat perilous.

Gil is right again.  Good Lord, that's twice in an afternoon!  And could his please be the last word on the subject of brownies.  And that includes Jeanne.  By the way, Stichin Girl, did you get those pesos?

Now that you brought it up, I just finished making White chocolate Brownies (or would that be Whities?)

Here's a link from a Wood Central discussion just last Friday I think.  It's got a nice picture of some 'hair sticks'.

This would be a great starting project for anybody, and good spindle practice for everyone else, myself included (my hair hasn't been long enough to use a stick for a long, long time, but back in the day  8) )

Throw in a matching bracelet and pendant with the hair sticks and you'll have a set that she'll go nuts about.  Women seem to really dig it when accessories come in matching sets.
