Summer Woodturning

With spring in full swing and Summer just around the corner, many people just don't get as much time to turn as they do in the cooler months. There are many reasons for this, weather being only one of them.
That being said, what turning related things do you do in the summer?
Do you collect and/or process wood, do you buy tools and/or equipment, do you look for inspiration and/or design influence, do you sell at shows/galleries etc, do you have a climate controlled shop and none of this affects you?

QOTW
What turning related things do you do in the summertime when you aren't turning?

It is always summer here.  With that in mind, I just keep on keeping on and smile a lot.

I turn almost year-round (no pun intended).  The best time (for the wood) here is to collect it in late January and early February (the wood is driest and if you want the bark to stick to a natural edge turning, it is the ONLY time to cut and collect the wood).  However, it is not the best time to collect word if you are the person doing the work  Shocked Wink.

In the summer I do more turning with the garage door open... that is really the only difference for me.  Thumbs Up

I am spoiled. My shop has airconditioning! I can and do turn all year. Still, there is never enough time. I feel the need to move my retirement closer!

During the summer I continue to turn.  Like Chris, my shop has air conditioning  Smiley  This is also a very busy time for us. Starting in March, thru the end of October, we will be doing about 13 art festivals this year.  So we either have to have most of our turnings done during the winter months.  However, it's always nice to have some fresh pieces made and ready to go later in the festival season.

We don’t get spring or fall here, just a cool winter or an “it would be cooler in hell” summer. During the summer I tend to turn a little earlier and let the CNC work once the temp gets up. And the Big Ass Fans fan helps also.

No woodturning or woodworking "season" for me either.  I petty much work on stuff whenever I want or need.  May actually do more in the summer now since I added air conditioning to the shop.

David...

Ain't it GREAT when you open the door to the shop and get hit with a nice cool breeze?

Best thing I ever did in the shop... more so than the dust collector!!   Grin

My turning "seasons" are pretty much determined by the level of pain I'm in by the time I get home from a full day at the store. Shocked

Actually feeling pretty good today so I'll definitely be heading in for a couple of hours of turning. Smiley Smiley

I will turn pretty much any time.  This weekend may be a test of that since the forecast is for the 90s with high humidity. Undecided

Time off work has to be fully utilized!

Turning is only a part time hobby for me.  I do have a window unit for cooling, and a wood stove for heat.  I have only turned  165 bowls in the last 4 years.  I have more trouble selling them than turning them.
