Vase from Unknown Wood___Suggestions/Tips?
Apr 24th, 2021 at 8:14pm

Please check out my vase made from a maple tree. I am looking for suggestions on tools or DIY tools for a steady rest and hollowing system for vases.  Also, any idea what wood this is.  This was harvested from a tree in central North Carolina.

There have been a number of discussions on the forum about the topics you brought up.  I have found the search function very helpful.  There are also a number of videos on this forum, some I believe address at least some of the topics you brought up.  When I first foumd this forum years ago I learned so much looking at old discussions and the videos here.

Was the wood still green or air dried when the finish was applied?

I'm confused, didn't you say it was from a maple tree?

Maybe down in NC, the Maple trees and the Pecan trees intermarry and end up with this stuff. Shocked Grin

It is a pretty cool pattern in the wood. Smiley

I did say that.  That is wrong.  This isn't made from Maple.  I didn't proof ready my message correctly.  Though I do have a lot of maple wood because I had two dead ones cut down on my property.  This came from a neighbor though.  Neither of us know what it is.  The guy that cut down my maple trees said it looked like Hickory.  But, he wasn't sure.
