I'll be attending my first "art" show next week. Did pre-run setup this morning to check out everything. Think I'm ready.

Asking for prayers, thanks

When people approach your booth stand up and smile.

Start a conversation about your work, engage them about what you do and the types of wood you use.

Most importantly... Have Fun!

I'm my wife's wingman and we just got back from a show today. She does well selling her pottery

What Ron said.  I've seen many artists just sit in the back of their booth and almost scowl.  Not real inviting.  Customers like to hear stories about the piece.  I've sold a lot of things after telling about something special about the wood, problems encountered, etc.   The one bowl I haven't been able to sell is what is called "the scowly face bowl".   A little boy about 4 told me he didn't like one bowl because it was scowling at him.  Look at it from his perpective, a small knot and a couple of bark inclusions looks like a face that is scowling.

Have fun!

Update:The show was postponed due to weather? Only things is the weather that Saturday was just what you'd have asked for for an outdoor show. Sunny, cool breeze, slightly overcast. Oh well, ready for next time.

We where at a show once when 30+mph winds kicked up and started blowing many venders canopies around. Many people had lost a lot of product. I place 40lbs of weights on each leg and when possible I use two stakes on each leg. As soon as the winds started to pick up we moved all of her pottery to the ground and placed the tables on their sides to protect them. She didn't lose a thing. The ones who lost the most where the ones whose neighbors didn't secure their canopy.

I make it a point to bring extra rope and stakes in my tool box to every outdoor show we do and gladly lend them to our neighbors if needed.

OK, finally had the show that was rescheduled from last spring. Temperature was hot and sales were non-existent. Could have been better advertised and not run same day as opening of State Fair and Western Days in adjacent town.

Thanks for your support,
Glenn J.

Have another one in October that's inside. Outside in Texas was horrid.

Well, I only do one show a year now, kind of retired from them. It seems like every show I did was some one's worst show ever, and some one else's best show ever. No particular reason. I do prefer to do shows that have a longer history rather than first year shows. Also, you need vacationers and/or Christmas shows.

We're checking out a show this weekend and if we like it we'll sign up to do it next year. This is something we always do. For a variety of reasons not all shows work for us.

Just checked out another show that runs at end of October. Sold out back in August. Will go see it and decide then whether to sign up or not.

Thanks for the encouragement all

That's not unusual, there's two shows we do, one in October and the other in November that we sign up for in April
