Oneway Stronghold or Nova Titan.

While I have some loose change in my pocket right now and some free time I am thinking about buying a larger, direct thread (1 1/4 by 8) chuck.  The Nova and the Oneway seem close in ability and price.  Neither comes new with the jaws I probably want on it.  I am using a Nova G2 on my Nova lathe now so the Titan seems the logical choice.  Since Have the G2 already the fact that I can use the G2 jaws on the Titan does not seem like a big deal.

So my question is:  Is there a reason to prefer the Oneway Stronghold over the Nova Titan?

I have mostly been a face plate with glued on tenon turner.  But..find I am using and liking a chuck more and more.

The usual two questions about a bigger chuck:  If, and if so, which one.

I'm guessing you have a Nova G3, the next usual step in the progression is a SuperNova 2 or SN 2.
The SN 2 is pretty much the work horse of the Nova lineup and probably responsible for the majority of turnings made with Nova chucks. The Titan is really only needed if 1. your lathe can handle it and 2. you're turning large pieces, over 14" or so, all the time. The SN2 will accept all the G3 jaws, where as some of the Titan jaws are not interchangeable, simply too large for the smaller chuck.

I have a SN2 and Stronghold chucks. I turn mostly larger items 13"-18" and both are nice chucks. I prefer the Stronghold on 15-18" and don't remember it ever letting me down. Given that info I still reach for my SN2 with tower jaws more often...of course I don't turn those big bowls every day.

Had a hard time locating the SN2 direct thread to buy.    Found one at Acme tools.  Ordered it.  Thanks for all the replies. I just had so much trouble with a wobbly thread insert when I got the Nova G2 years ago I wanted to get a direct thread.

Got the new Super Nova chuck body today from Acme tool.  Thanks, Ed, for the recommendation.  What a nice chuck.  I had never seen one in person and sorta skipped over that chuck in the adds because Nova refers to it as a Lite chuck and I was looking for a strong one.  Heck, there is nothing Lite about it.  And..the machining and the operation are worlds better than on the G2 I already have.  And it works smooth, unlike the mechanism on the G2.  Yes, this chuck is as big and heavy as I want.

Another chuck came in the mail today.  Apparently I ordered 2 of them back in July.  Acme is showing an order for July 7 and another on July 11.  I got the first one on July 19.  I am pretty sure I had them cancel the erroneous order for the second chuck.  Their mistake anyway,   I got another one delivered today, October 25.  I have no idea if I paid for 1 or 2.  I decided to just keep the second one too.  Very nice chucks.  Not the first tool I have had "too many of".  It is either a free chuck or it was charged in July before it was shipped.  Probably not worth the hassle of trying to straighten things out now.

Chucks are like clamps, you can't have to many
