I've been reading here for a while and I think this seems to be a friendly, helpful bunch so I guess I'll jump in too. I'm a fulltime firefighter in Southern Ontario with a woodworking obsession.
I've been turning off and on for 15 years, but recenty decided to take the big step up from a little beaver (rockwell) to the "General" 260. So I guess I'm committed now (or should be) I'm waiting impatiently for the adapter to fit the stronghold chuck, and I have to finish the canoe before I start turning. Too many projects, too little time!

You're on the right track. Lathe, tools, lesson or two (maybe three), chuck and adaptor, and let us never forget, Woodturner's Resource. This is the forth home (wife/family 1, office 2, shop/studio 3, in front of computer with our virtual family 4). Some may change that around a bit, but what ever your arrangement, it's a pretty good place to hangout when we're not turning. Enjoy and jump on in. 8)

I just found this thread so I guess I should introduce myself.

My name is Ron Sardo, I have a lovely wife and two beautiful teenage daughters, (so now you know why my hair is turning gray.)

I've been a woodworker for awhile and started turning in August 03. Funny thing is my wife purchased the lathe for me for christmas and it took me 8 months before I decided to assemble it. I really had no interest in turning.

Boy! Was I Wrong! I can't seem to get enough time to turn!

I like turning a variety of things from bowls to pens, from hollow forms to boxes and lately segmented forms.
