How do you lock the feeder in place when it's up there please? And, I'm assuming there's a pipe on the inside of the feeder to stop the food falling out the hole in the middle, is that right? You've probably realised by now that I'm thinking of stealing this idea.

When I did one 40 years ago, I used a coupling where I wanted the bottom to stop. I used a pipe flange screwed to the outside of the bottom and a short length of pipe through the bottom to keep the seed in. The flange and short pipe was a larger size so it could slid over the post pipe. The coupling also made it easier to take the feeder off of the post to do a periodic cleaning.

I like the idea of a large container for seed because I seem to be endlessly filling feeders. I have my wee birds really spoiled.

the pipe goes through a box that supports the sides. this makes 2 separate feeding areas. there is 5/16" holes in the pipe, one just below the feeder to keep it up against the upper roof and one 2' below to support the feeder will filling it. i used a 1/4" carriage bolt as a lock pin.if you are interested, i will email the plans i have. or you can view, print or save from here : Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!
