I need to make a few more Madurai for the weaver and I think Jerrys rig will make it easier than the donut chuck with all those metal thins whizzing around.

Ken, with my bad spellig plus lack of memory on Madurai, I couldn't find it online Saturday. Today with the correct spelling, I got a look at what you are doing. With the Tail Stock Steady, it's going to be a piece of cake making the disc. .. ......... Jerry (in Tucson)

Gentlemen - thank you for the concern - didn't mean to hijack this thread - just an ongoing problem with the old ticker that needs to be worked out. I still get to turn but need to make sure I don't over do it.

It is a disc with a hole in the center used for multi-strand weaving of cords.  One was shown in the You Tube video I referenced.

turners can make the top, base, and the support columns as well as the bobbins (called tama).   A weaving art form from Japan that seems to be popular.

As the Weaver's support person, I get to make these things from the woods she chooses.   I have some Alaska red birch when I get back to Juneau to make into a few more.

Ed, it's more like a shallow bowl with a hole. .......... Jerry (in Tucson)
