Quality pen kits
Jan 27th, 2016 at 11:28pm

I am looking for some high quality pen kits that surpass that of the general slimline. The slimelines generally have a high gloss, made-in-china look, and do not even write as well as a common Sharpie pen. Is there any kit out there that compares to a Mont Blanc in style and writing? And if not, is there any good way to make a good custom pen using non-kit parts?

There are varying degrees of quality in slimline kits.  The best I have found are the Artisan slimlines from Craft Supply.

The writing ability depends a lot on the ink refill.  If you want an upgraded refill, call Ed at Exotic Blanks dot com and talk to him about what he has available.  I have also purchased genuine Cross refills from Colorado Pen Supply.

For a really nice writing pen, make a pen with a Parker-style refill.  The styles are limitless, in both click types and twist types.  Again, Ed at Exotic blanks sells an upgraded refill, although the refills that come standard in the Berea-sourced kits (bereahardwoods.com) that are resold by many of the suppliers are of a pretty decent quality.

If you haven't yet check out the International Assoc. of Penturners website   Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

They have turners making pens from cheap slimlines all the way up to customizing the kits to making their own part.

Some people are like slinkies... totally worthless but it puts a smile on your face when you push them down the stairs.
