Another prototype. Brought to you from my scrap pile.
It is 3-1/2 in diameter and 4” high. It is friction finished. There are 19 layers of various thickness. Top is purple heart base is walnut.
As always I like to get suggestions and comments.

Dale: For a bowl that size, I would suggest that you need thinner strips making up your blank. Also, I find the top and bottom rings much too thick for the design of the piece.

A big disclaimer here: these are my free advice and are worth no more or less than what you paid for them.  Wink

I agree with Grant. Plus I think the top and bottom should be the same wood.

Thank you for your comments. I agree with you on all accounts.
This was an experiment to see what could be done. So I used wood out of my scrap pile. At that time I did not have a reasonable way to cut thin strips or accurately re-saw.
Just to see if this was something I would like to do.

Well "IT IS!" So, I bought the accu-slice system. The accu-slice system is amazing. Best of all it is just as good as advertised.
I have been able to cut several  2ft x 2in strips about 0.006 in thick.

I have read about the Accu-slice. It has one major fault, it cost a lot of money. I would love to have one.
