The Safety Police will be all over this, but this is an interesting video.

Wonderful! If I had some Ivory, I would probably make a box out of it, but I will probably never even have the opportunity to get my hands on any. This brings back memories of a work shop with Alan Batty and his stories about turning billiard balls, a project that took a year or three because the Ivory had to 'adjust' after each turning.

Antler would be as close as we can come to Elephant tusks and the same material to.

I have some Elk antler which is almost 3" at the base but only one piece left and to go to the person who gave me the stuff.

Not quite the same material, but I don't know how the difference would apply to turning them.   The difference is that antlers are bone material and tusks are tooth material.   That's the short answer.   The long answer(s) can be found here: Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Also: All answers found on the Internet need to be taken with a grain of salt! Wink
