Good finish for IPE?
Jun 14th, 2020 at 8:51pm

I just turned a segmented box out of IPE and Oak. I’m wondering what to use for a nice finish. Any and all advice will be appreciated.

Well I will warn you, Ipe isn't always the easiest wood to apply finish to.
Ipe has a high amount of natural oils and some finishes won't adhere well or can fail after a short period of time. I would suggest an oil or oil blend type of finish. finishes like polyurethane may stick to to oak but fail on the Ipe.
If you have any scraps, I would try your finish on a test piece.
