Staved lidded container

This is a lidded stave container. It is made up of 16 staves. Each stave is made up of blue gum wood and padauk wood. The base and top are maple. The lid is also padauk. The measurement is 12 inches high and 6 inches in diameter.
I really like to get comments, criticisms, and suggestions for improvements.

Nice piece, thanks for sharing
The only thing I can say as a critique would be what was told to me the first time I made a vessel like that.
The sides are too straight.
It seems that many people like a long gentle, subtle curve in the walls rather than a straight profile. It has the effect of making the piece look "lighter" and slimming up the base.

The only other thing I would suggest is to stagger the padauk from the blue gum. I know that's easier said than done but the look you get typically frames or defines your stave portion better. A blue gum insert in the lid can also add a little enhancement.
Just some suggestions.

Very nice looking. I love the colors.
How did you keep the Padauk from staining the blue gum?
I just finished a bowl using walnut, ash & Padauk I washed the Padauk with acidtone but the color still ran.

I used the white water resistant Titebond III glue.

Very pretty!!    I would agree with what Ed said.  A slight curve and maybe the base to be a bit smaller.  A thin veneer of a contrasting wood separating the blue gum from the padauk would add a lot.  When I started doing graphic design an artist showed me how much difference a dark line on the edge made in highlighting and separating elements.  It doesn't take much to make a big difference.
