Diamond vessel

Finally finished the diamond vessel I talked about in the "funk" thread.

The diamond feature ring was a tedious project. Getting all the diamonds centered in their wedge shaped blocks required demanding measuring and sanding. Each diamond block is made from five pieces of wood. Getting these five pieces all in the same orientation for each of the 16 blocks also required a lot of attention to detail. Do not ask how many blocks I had to remake because one of the pieces was in the wrong orientation.

I actually made two diamond feature rings. The first one made was not tall enough after getting it done and seeing it on the already finished bottom portion of the vessel. It also had minor variations in the diamond positions that bothered me. So I tossed it and started with a new design.

The black walnut on the bottom is actually all the same color. The camera picked up lighting to cause the pieces to look like they are a different color.

Even with good dust collection all the sanding needed to make the diamond segments has filled my little shop with dust. It will probably take a day to remove everything from shelves and clean.

This project was inspired by a video by Gord Rock and a vessel design in Segment Pro software.

Adding the vessel size. 11" wide X 9" tall.
