dovetailing compound angles
Mar 30th, 2010 at 9:40am

I have gotten it into my head to make some more stave hollow forms.  I would like to dove tail the staves together.  However I am unable to find a procedure for dovetailing compound angles.  I do have a Leigh dovetail jig to wok with. Is there any one that has done this and if so how? Cheesy Shocked Undecided

i haven't, but it seems to me that you could cut your(compound angle) pieces like normal, but allow enough room for the tail on one side. you will then take your mitered side,(with the edge facing down) and run it over your router table. the only part of the board that will be touching the fence will be the sharp edge, but i think going slow and steady, it will be fine. do this for both male and female joints and i believe it will work. this method will put the tail at ninety degrees to the edge of the board. hope this makes sense.         brian

I've been wanting to do that for years. Never finally bit the bullet and gave it a try though. Let me know how it turns out.
cheers,
