Ordered my 2.  Annual purchase.  Folks sure ooo and ahh over it when they come into my office.  My Dad figures there will be one in his stocking Christmas morning and can't wait to hang it in his shop.  They really do show off the talent pool here on Woodturners Resource.  Well done everyone!
Cool

Ron it may just be my computer but I noticed my cherry platter appears darker like walnut without the red tint that was in the original photo. Is the color off or is it just my computer? Just curious

What you are seeing are the effects of converting to RGB (for viewing on screen) to CMYK (for printing) and back to RGB (to showcase the calendar on the web). In short this will cause some color shifts.

What you see on a computer screen will never match what is printed unless you have a high end monitor with $1000 software to properly calibrate it. Did you ever go to a store where they have a wall of TVs displayed? Did you ever notice that some looked better than others? Computer monitors are the same, what each of us see will be slightly different in color.

Also, when the photo was taken the white balance was off causing a color shift (towards warm - I'm guessing you used an incandescence blub).

To answer your question, yes, the platter does seem dark but I wouldn't call it walnut.

Thanks Ron I was just wondering and yes I did use two
incandescence bulbs on the sides of the tent I made. Live and learn, I guess I should have used those new bulbs instead huh? I really wasn't complaining at all just curious. Thanks so much for the info about not using incandescence bulbs next time. smiley=thumbsup.gif

That really depends on what those "new bulbs instead" are.

What you can look for are light bulbs that are color corrected. I'm not sure if they are still on the market but GE Revel 100 work well. Another option is on most digital cameras you can set your white balance either automatically or manually.

Ron I was thinking of the long life bulbs they make now with the curlie tube look? I guess I will need to talk to a photograper to learn how to use my digital camera on more than the auto feature. I am learning and will not give up until I figure it out. Again thanks so much for all your help. Without someone pointing out what we do wrong we would never get much right. Thats one reason I love this forum!

The "curlie" bulbs are florescent which means in all likely hood you will get a green tint.

In the TPT there are a few articles on photography, check them out.
