Rafter Square
Feb 2nd, 2016 at 11:14am

It seems now that One Time Tool has taken a common Rafter Square, (which can be bought for starting at $20-$30) refined it and now it's $130.

After seeing the price I can only conclude that One Time Tool is trying to compete with Festool for the most expensive line of tools.
Don't get me wrong, It looks like a very nice tool, just a bit too expensive.
I'm not sure when woodworking became a "rich mans'" craft. I also think you should be able to cut a straight line without $1k worth of tools. (second video)

You can get a speed square for around $10 from Lowes and a 16x24 square for even less.

What I think sets this tool apart is the red paint... now if it had pin stripping I would get this in a heart beat.

I get mailings on those one-time tools...  my observations:

1) they look nice
2) WAAAYYY overpriced
3) will look for these tools in garage sales for $5 each... should take ~3 years for them to start showing up...

...and if I don't find any, I saved myself $5.

Doesn't even have the degree markings a common speed square has. Probably would have added to much to the cost.

But it will set the fence on your $650 Festool table.

But it could do it faster if it had pin striping!

Now remember everyone, this is a PRECISION TRIANGLE, not a run of the mill speed square.....

I just checked my $3 plastic square and it was right on 90 and 45.  I doubt for woodworking you need better then less then 1/3 degree error.  The square I use for metal working is the same as the plastic one.  Of course neither are a nice red color.  Maybe I will spray mine red.  Of course the same could probably be said about black lathes but I still want one.
