Where do you obtain information?
Apr 23rd, 2018 at 8:02am

Where do you go to obtain more information on woodturning related topics, ideas, suggestions, insights? Do you pick up information from colleagues, general reading, online forums, in casual discussion, classes or your own pondering?

I guess there are three areas that I pick up ideas and help from.  The first is online forums, then reading and lastly classes/club meetings.  If it is a new skill that I want to learn it is usually done thru talking one on one with another turner or taking a hands on class.

Well I would have to honestly say, everywhere.
Info on the forum and internet in general but really just about everything and everyone you encounter.
I can be working on something completely different (not woodworking) and think, "I could turn something like that" or "that would look good made from wood".
A photo can be enough to set a project in motion.
Taking the information and '"pondering" as Ron called it, I will attempt to make my version or my improvement on the piece or process.

This site, it's one of the first places I go to every morning. Sometimes from fellow club members from the two different clubs I belong to.

This site is like the old card indexes at the library, you start to look for something specific, you start looking through the cards , find something that peaks your interest, and soon you're off on a totally different tangent.

This site, AAw magazine, internet,  And each year I travel to the US for the AAW Symposium.  It is a wealth of knowledge just begging to be absorbed.

A bunch of ways.  I’ll see things on the net, or mags like  AAW,
I’m not afraid to experiment and most instances all that costs is my time and some wood.  The time is what I get stingy with, the wood is no problem— have a limitless supply..

Everyday liberating nice things from ordinary chunks of wood---and I like gnarly wood, the outcome is nearly always better than the start.
