"Poseidon's Platter"
This piece is 14 1/2" D X 9 1/2" tall. The center is White Oak the Scalloped edge is segmented Walnut, the Dolphins are also Walnut. The Walnut base is turned, cut & carved plus I added three hand carved Sea Horses that are mounted at the tail.

If anyone wants me to explain any part of this piece please just ask.

Bruce

Is there a reason I can't post photos here anymore?

No reason that I'm aware of BUT
If you attach a photo and then use the preview feature before you post, the photo will not show up. Simply a <200kb file and post

I like the whole piece except for the rim (pie crust) and I may have used different woods.
I would think the rim would look better if it were either assembled using grain following technique or assembled using some joint other than a straight butt joint.
Everything else on the piece flows nicely except the abrupt joint in the rim. JMO
Your carving skills keep getting better from the pieces you've shown here, nice job.

Thank you for your input Ed I haven't had anyone comment on the segmented seams, this is how I do all my segment seams.

Thank you very much Rob I realized I never mentioned the finish, Because of the heavy White Oak grain I sand sealed 4 coats sanding w/ 220 between coats then rattle can mat Lacquer about 5 coats. the base and Dolphins and base the same but Gloss Lacquer.

A curved joint or continuous grain would give it more of a water flowing feel, JMO

Woodturners Unlimited

It's my honor to be able to pick the next Turning of the Week. This was much harder than I thought it would be, with all the extremely talented tuners in this group. After a long and hard look I've decided to pick "Poseidon's Platter Too" by Bruce Jones as the next turning of the week. Every time I scroll up to it I can't help but to zoom in on all the pictures and become mesmerized by all the detail that was put into this piece. The platter, which was done first, is a piece of art in itself. The separate base really raises this piece to a whole new level. While the piece as shown in the photos is amazing, I can only imagine the amount of detail that can be seen in person. Congratulations Bruce, this is a piece to be proud of!
