Wasp in my shop.
Nov 4th, 2019 at 12:34pm

I bet I have killed at least 60 wasps in my shop this year. I think they are coming through the AC unit which is a window unit. We have been living here for about six years and this is the first year they have wanted to winter in my shop. I have to watch closely at everything I pick up. For the most part, they have been slow about moving around because I keep it about 62 degrees in the winter. Any of you guys have this problem?

Sorry, no help here. Mine is a Catholic shop!  Grin    Sorry could not resist!

I have had the occasional wasp, but the last couple of years we have been getting a ton of Stink Bugs. Careful how you get rid of them... phew!

Maybe you can get one of those wasp traps:

Wasps or Yellow Jackets? I would find yellow jackets in my fire wood. They get kicked out of the nest in the fall. They would warm up once inside the house and start flying around... I did get stung more than once by laying a cold one on my arm under a piece of wood. Learned to knock off the fire wood pieces before loading them onto my arm.... They do not like the lemon citrus spray at all... Neither do ants.

plz elaborate - lemon citrus spray  thanks    I was turning fresh cut maple last week, with shop door open, and yellow jackets couldn't resist the aroma, hovering tween my face and the work.

It's ayearly thing for me.  Once it gets cold, they come into the shop.  Occasionally during the cold months I'll warm it up enough for them to start flying, then I just spay them.
when it warms up for a few days, I'll wait till they start moving, then I set off the "bombs".  This past year must've killed several hundred wasps.
I do the bombs several times a year---not for the wasps----just can't stand the scorpions....and the bombs kill the beetles (that like wood) that come in too.

Everyday liberating nice things from ordinary chunks of wood---and I like gnarly wood, the outcome is nearly always better than the start.

Do a google search for "limonene insect repellent"
D-limolene is the ingredient that comes from citrus peels that affects the insects.

I found the lemon citrus spray at the local big box grocery store where they have the air fresheners. Smells better than any bug spray I have found...

I have been using Spectraside and it knocks them down fast. My wife bought some else at the store and it doesn't do near as well. I slapped her around a little so she will not make that mistake again.   Angry

You guys know I am kidding. I would never do that.

I used a piece of scrap 1/8" paneling and made a paddle about a foot long.  It's great sport to see how far I can knock the wasp across the shop.  You do have to be careful around light fixtures.
