One approach makes the pores a very light color against very dark side grain, and the other makes the pores a very dark color against a light (essentially un colored) side grain.  And the latter, relying solely on wax, would not offer protection against water drops.

True, but you can overcoat with spray lacquer. I was dubious this would work when I saw the Jimmy Clewes video on colouring the grain on a tool handle.
I tried it myself though and it works.

Well, I moved into the new shop in September.... Does that count? It will take a year to organize the shop. Having first play date today, making lidded boxes after last Thursday's demo.... Now to learn how to do work shops....

Can we see one of your handles?

That sounds pretty quick to me, it may take longer, don't rush it. Nothing worse than setting up something only to have to move it again.

Now that Christmas is over, I can safely say that Santa must have gotten lost. NORAD can't find him, and the hubble telescope reports him missing in action. He probably broke a runner on his sleigh carrying a remodeled 4 stall horse barn. The concrete is heavy, and his elves went on strike. Wait! The elves just signed a new contract, and the runner repaired! He's on his way!

You must have been very good indeedthe wood (additional tannin's can be added also) to darken or blacken the wood. This is not a coating dye or stain, you are actually changing the chemistry of the wood at the surface by chemical reaction. This is important because this does not change the surface texture at all, so no danger of filling open grain features that you want to enhance.

Calling something an ebonizing product just because it's black is really not accurate IMO, at least in the woodworking context.

Personally, the product shown is just black laxuer spray IMO. If someone know of "actual" ebonizing properties it has, please correct me.
BTW if you're looking for colored lacquer finishes, I would look at luthier websites like Stew-Mac.
